Think Sterling Green

The city of Sterling Heights launched Think Sterling Green to improve the health and sustainability of the community. Part of Think Sterling Green is the Go Green Grants program. For the program, the city partnered with Michigan Saves to provide monetary incentives for eligible residents to make clean energy improvements to their home. Residents are encouraged to apply for the program early as it is first come, first serve. In order to apply, you must have a quote from an authorized Michigan Saves installer, such as Ecotelligent Homes.

There are two levels of incentives for the Go Green Grants program as well as a financing option through Michigan Saves.

Level 1

The first level covers home improvements up to $7,500 with the homeowner responsible for any costs that exceed that amount. This incentive level is income based and requires proof of income.

Level 2

The second level covers 20% of the cost of the building improvements up to $5,000.

The incentive can be used toward building improvements such as air sealing and insulation; HVAC systems including high-efficiency air conditioners and furnaces, geothermal systems, heat pumps; remediation services such as asbestos, lead and mold removal among others. You can read a full list of eligible improvements and apply for the Think Sterling Green program on the city's website.

Home Performance Services

After performing an energy audit on your Sterling Heights home, Ecotelligent Homes may suggest one or more of our services. Our aim is to achieve a comfortable home with consistent temperatures and reduced energy bills. Once the recommended home improvements have been made, our team will conduct a quality assurance check to ensure that your home is now more energy-efficient due to our enhancements.

Insulation

Ecotelligent Homes can help improve your home’s comfort and create an even temperature throughout by replacing or installing insulation. We offer a range of insulation types that can be added based on your home’s requirements. The available insulation options include:

Spray Foam Insulation — Ecotelligent Homes installs spray foam insulation in homes in Sterling Heights. Spray foam insulation is versatile but is most commonly used in crawlspaces, basement rim joists and knee walls. It has a high R-value to help keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Cellulose Insulation — Cellulose insulation is ideal for attics in Sterling Heights. An under-insulated or uninsulated attic can lead to a cold home and ice dams in the winter making your home uncomfortable. Ecotelligent uses cellulose insulation that is made in Michigan so it has a lower environmental impact compared to other forms of insulation.

Attic Insulation — To boost the energy efficiency of your home and establish a cozy living space, it's essential to ensure that your attic is adequately insulated. Ecotelligent Homes can install attic insulation and combine it with air sealing to achieve consistent temperatures throughout your Sterling Heights home.

Crawlspace Insulation — An uninsulated crawlspace can make your home uncomfortable and is also unused space. Ecotelligent Homes installs spray foam insulation in Sterling Heights homes to achieve a more comfortable environment. It also allows you to gain storage space in your home.

Rim Joist Insulation — If your Sterling Heights home has drafty or chilly floors, rim joist insulation may be a solution worth considering. The use of closed cell spray foam and air sealing can eliminate drafts, providing warmth during the winter and a cool environment during the summer months.

Pole Barn Insulation — Get year-round use out of your Sterling Heights pole barn by insulating it. Ecotelligent uses spray foam insulation for pole barns to make it more comfortable during the winter months. Spray foam insulation is also beneficial during the summer months to keep temperatures down.

Air Sealing — Air sealing is crucial for enabling optimal performance of your home’s systems. Ecotelligent Homes can identify the cause of drafts in your Sterling Heights home and eliminate them with air sealing. Common areas that may require air sealing include window trims, basement rim joists, and recessed lighting.

High-Efficiency Furnaces — Ecotelligent Homes can help you pick the right high-efficiency furnace to keep your home warm during Michigan’s winter months. Our team will consider the energy rating of furnaces as well as the cost of energy sources to select the best high-efficiency furnace option for your Sterling Heights home.

Air Source Heat Pump — If you're looking for an effective solution for your Sterling Heights home's heating and cooling requirements, consider an air source heat pump. These pumps transfer warm air from outside to inside during winter and from inside to outside during summer. For extremely low temperatures, they can be paired with high-efficiency furnaces.

Duct sealing is the process of detecting and sealing leaks in a home’s duct system to prevent air loss, reduce energy consumption and enhance indoor comfort.

Pair energy-efficient upgrades with renewable energy to reduce your carbon footprint. Ecotelligent Homes can suggest the best renewable energy options for your Sterling Heights home based on your home’s orientation and landscape.

Geothermal Heat Pumps — Geothermal heat pump systems can keep your home comfortable by using consistent ground temperatures. Prior to installing a geothermal heat pump to your Sterling Heights home, insulation and duct sealing should be at energy-efficient levels to get the most out of your investment.

Solar — Ecotelligent Homes can install solar panels for your Sterling Heights home. Solar energy is effective year-round in Michigan, despite less sunshine in the winter. Installing solar panels can help your home achieve zero net energy.

Electrification — Electrification refers to the replacement of fossil fuel-based energy sources with electricity in your Sterling Heights home, often generated from renewable sources like solar power. This process involved power devices and systems that previously relied on non-renewable energy sources with electricity.

Healthy Home

Ecotelligent Homes wants to make sure your Sterling Heights home is a healthy home. We do this by providing services that test your indoor air quality as well as removing known pollutants from your home.

Indoor Air Quality Testing — Poor air quality in your Sterling Heights home can be caused by various common household irritants.
